“The Eraserheads are one of the most important artists in the history of Pinoy rock music. Often described as the Philippines’ own Beatles, the Eraserheads brought their melodic guitar rock and keen wit from Manila’s underground scene and into the mainstream.” Spolarium is one of their well known song. When I first heard the song, I just liked the beat of it but never noticed the hidden message behind it. When the background and the so called urban legend behind it was given to us, it creeped me out and gave me goosebumps. I don’t like to believe the hidden message behind the song in which they tell about a rape incident about Pepsi Paloma.

Born Delia Duenas Smith to a Filipina and an American father, Paloma was known as one of the “soda starlets” of the 1980s—so-called because they used famous soft drink brands as their stage names. Only 14 at the time, Paloma quickly earned notoriety for going nude in the 1981 film Brown Emmanuelle. Months later, in 1982, she met Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, and Richie D’ Horsie (Richie Reyes) while she was promoting her film.”

The Video did not show exactly about the rape incident but laid it out vaguely. When you listen carefully through the lyrics, you could notice very well that something is off with it. I do believe that the song is about a the incident in which Pepsi Paloma is the one being pertained to. However, I do not want believe that people like Tito Sotto was involved. Everyone deserves a fair judgement and we really don’t know who is the true criminal. There might be a chance that he is but we should not make our final judgment.

Putting hidden messages behind the song is a very brilliant tactic for the reason that people will be intrigued therefore selling the song and next is they are able to relay the message that they want to give to the people either it’s a positive one or a negative one.

The message of the song became negative for me maybe because of the tone of the singer and the vibe it gives out. And given the meaning of the lyrics, it gives off a very creepy feeling. It gave of the meaning that something very dark is going around the media and a lot of people just don’t know it. The song, for me, it’s an interesting one but it’s not something that I’d listen to on a regular basis. And up to now the message behind the song is still an urban legend in which no one knows the true story.
